C-70S Bar
Rackable Short Bar as Seen at the CrossFit Games

The 15KG Rogue C-70S Barbell is essentially a “shorty” version of our 20KG Ohio Bar and a rackable version of our original C-70 short bar. Available here with a Cerakote shaft finish and chrome sleeves, this compact 72” design can benefit anyone training in tight quarters, be it a small garage gym or busy training facility, with nearly 15” of space-saving efficiency versus a full-length bar.

Like the Ohio Bar, the American-made C-70S features a 190,000 PSI steel shaft, dual knurl marks, quality composite bushings, and a standard 52” of spacing between the sleeves. The “S” in the bar’s name stands for “Snatch,” as the standard sleeve spacing enables athletes to perform these and other movements that would typically require a full-length barbell for proper hand placement. Case in point, we initially developed this style of bar for snatch events at the CrossFit Games, where compact competition lanes required a shorter bar

As an added benefit of its design, the C-70S can be racked conveniently on most standard power racks / squat stands. It should be noted, though, that the 8.875” of loadable sleeve length is roughly half that of the Ohio Bar (16.4”) and slightly less than the original non-rackable C-70 Bar (12”). There is no center knurl, and the Rogue logo is included in the center of the shaft as part of the Cerakote finish.

More on Cerakote
All of our Rogue C-70S Bars feature a Black Cerakote shaft finish. Widely used by firearm manufacturers for its durability in thin applications, this ceramic-based coating can offer superior abrasion, wear, and corrosion resistance over time—up to 100x that of traditional black zinc.

Game-Changing Rackability

As perhaps the biggest feature of its design, the C-70S can be racked conveniently on most standard power racks / squat stands, dramatically improving its functional benefits over most standard short bars. Additionally, while the sleeves are shorter on this model, the 52” of spacing between them is the same as a full-length barbell, allowing athletes to perform movements that haven’t traditionally been practical with short bars, such as the snatch and overhead squats. It should be noted that the 8.875” of loadable sleeve length is roughly half that of the Ohio Bar (16.4”) and slightly less than the original non-rackable C-70 Bar (12”). There is no center knurl, and the Rogue logo is included in the center of the shaft as part of the Cerakote finish.

2

A History Tied to the CrossFit Games

The “S” in the bar’s name literally stands for “Snatch,” and refers to its origins at the 2014 CrossFit Games, when narrow competition lanes in the snatch event required a new type of short bar design. The standard width between sleeves gave the feel of a normal barbell, but the shorter sleeves allowed for athletes to work in much closer proximity to each other while also maximizing the number of athletes per heat. The C-70S would ultimately be used at each subsequent CrossFit Games for six years running.

3

Space-Saving Efficiency

The advantages of a short bar go well beyond competition lanes. In large gyms, the design of the C-70S allows more athletes to train simultaneously, and in a cramped garage gym, the shorter shaft (72” vs the 86.75” of a full-length Ohio Bar) enables full Olympic lifting movements—including proper hand placement on the snatch grip—with more room to spare and easier storage between workouts.

4

F-16R Durability Rating

Like the full-length Ohio Bar, the C-70S is manufactured in the USA and equipped with dual knurl marks, quality composite bushings, and a 28.5mm, 190,000 PSI tensile strength steel shaft. Each shaft is treated with our exclusive Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) process for superior fatigue resistance. With its short sleeves, there is also significantly less stress put on the shaft on each drop. As a result, the C-70s scores a rating of F-16R in F-Scale durability testing, the highest mark of any barbell we’ve tested.

5

Cerakote Shaft Finish

All of our Rogue C-70S Bars feature a Black Cerakote shaft finish. Widely used by firearm manufacturers for its durability in thin applications, this ceramic-based coating can offer superior abrasion, wear, and corrosion resistance over time—up to 100x that of traditional black zinc.

F Scale™

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

Oxidation Rate

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Great Barbell for small spaces
This bar has a great feel to it. It’s great for small spaces as well. The sleeve is short but I still can get 245lbs on it, with big bumper plates. It’s a must have!

Fabulous bar!
I have the C70 and love it... but it's not rackable. This C70S is rackable with about 9 inch sleeves for weights which is perfect for me. The bar is so sturdy I checked to make sure it's only 15kg. Feels solid! The cerakote finish feels good in my hands. Bar arrived in 3 days - Rogue shipping is the best if they have item in stock. The tube was a little banged up but bar was in perfect shape. I also ordered some DBs - those boxes were pretty mangled but the DBs were in perfect shape. The UPS driver was grateful I carried in some from truck. Rogue rocks!

Best “new” bar to have! Lasting review.
I got this bar MONTHS after it came out because I was weary of it. I didn’t think the shorter length would make a difference. Oh man yes it does. All the features you love in your normal barbell. Great knurling, crisp clean Rogue lettering. Spins smoothly. I have a garage gym so space is always an issue. With my Echo bar I can only lift facing one way so the bar won’t hit anything on the way down. I don’t have to worry about that with this bar. If you are worried about matching weight throw 5’s on each side and it’s the same weight as it would have been before. If you are on the fence about this bar, GET IT.

Fits in my condo
This bar feels really good and is so much easier in a small space. I have to do some math when calculating my weight (minus 5kg) but you can put 3 plates on each side, so it big enough. Love it.

Even better than my Ohio!
I have been waiting for this bar to come out for months and because I already own the Ohio bar I had to justify this purchase. Well Ohio is better for Landmine with that HUGE 16+ in sleeve. Other than that it's gonna be my 2nd favorite bar, the c-70 "snatch" is my new favorite. The picture below shows how many plates you can fit if you buy steel slim style designs. (2 inner green are 10k outer is 25lb) this is easily capable of handling 500+ lbs, 400lbs pictured, and with those half sized sleeves it's easier to walk around and load weight in a cramped garage and lifting it out of the vertical holder is 10lb easier which is much appreciated in the early morning before my first lift. This bar is also for the kids and wife. 35lb is not only easier to use but way easier getting it on the hooks to begin with. Easy set up. Now about easy use. Warm up sets bug me. I hate putting on 35s or 25s just to take them off in 1 or 2 sets to then remove them to put on a 45lb plate for all remaing sets. Well this BAR IS 35LB so I can start with my 45lb plate and it's only 125 lb! I do have the competition collars that are 5kg so if i use those it's normal 45lb bar math if I choose. The knurl is the amazing Ohio volcano style & cerakote is like having a bar chalked up all the time dry. 5 stars and honestly if it existed last year I may have never met Mr Ohio bar!
