Mass Producing Massive Steel Coils Into Rogue Monster 1-Inch Hardware

Rogue’s 1-inch hardware begins with American steel arriving at the Nucor plant. Raw material arrives in the form of large steel wire rod coils. Each coil is run through a series of rinse baths, drawing surface contaminants from the incoming raw steel. After the rinse baths, the cleaned wire rod coils undergo controlled heating processes to optimize their microstructure for cold forming, making the steel much easier to bend and squeeze during the cold heading process. The machines are fed a continuous wire rod that is manually welded and ground smooth by hand.

The blanks move to the next step in the machine, where it strikes each one multiple times in progressive dies. With a hex head now formed on the blank, the threads are rolled onto the shank using a flat die. Nuts for Rogue’s 1-inch hardware are produced through hot forging rather than cold heading, where a powerful punch forms the outer hex shape to create the six-sided profile. Immediately after which, a center punch tool drives through the hot blank to create the through-hole for the bolt threads. The larger pins are processed with an automated system using robotic arms to move the blanks through each stage.

Approved hardware is sorted, counted, and boxed. These boxes are then shipped to the next stage. At a separate facility, the hardware receives Rogue’s signature blackened finish. The thermal chemical diffusion introduces carbon and nitrogen directly into the surface of the steel. From massive steel coils to precision blackened hardware, these 1-inch components are built with American steel and engineered for extreme use.
